The Bear Hunt is a short story that's been written by Leo Tolstoy. This story is written in the first-person narration. There is no real theme in the story because that bear hunt event was the real event of the author's life.

In the story, we see the author facing difficult circumstances. He faces difficulty with the natural surrounding when he had to stay in the forest for hunting. Then, when he gets injured in the forest because of the bear's attack, he faces severe pain. It takes one full month for him to recover from the attack under a doctor's supervision.

In the story, we see his servant as a highly loyal entity. He goes to hunt the animal with his friend and servant. His servant most prominently shows up as his loyal connection during the animal's attack. And he's the same person who killed the animal in the story within a year.
